All you need is love, Beatle proves as he ties knot again

Paul McCartney made sure he got Nancy Shevell into his life with an intimate wedding on what would have been Lennon's 71st birthday.

THE first time Paul McCartney married at Marylebone Registry Office, the place was mobbed by fans distraught that the last bachelor Beatle was off the market.

Forty-two years later, McCartney returned to the same venue to make Nancy Shevell, an American heiress, his third wife. There were no sobbing girls collapsing into the arms of policemen as when he wed Linda Eastman in 1969, although fans from as far afield as Japan turned out for the occasion.

It was also far from rock'n'roll. McCartney, 69, and Ms Shevell, 51, visited the gym a few hours before the wedding on Sunday, and returned for an evening reception in their back garden. ''I feel absolutely wonderful,'' McCartney said as he hugged his new bride. ''I feel terrific. I feel married.'' Read more at Smh

Salma Hayek: I’m nobody’s Barbie

Salma Hayek insists she’s “nobody’s Barbie”.

The stunning actress is married to French billionaire François-Henri Pinault. He is the CEO of luxury goods firm PPR - who own Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent.

Although she likes impressing her husband with her choice of attire, Salma would never dress a certain way just to make him happy.

"I like to play fashion with him, but I'm nobody's Barbie," she said in an interview with the November edition of Redbook magazine.

Salma can rely on François-Henri. However, the 45-year-old beauty insists being married to a powerful businessman doesn't mean she's given up her freedom.

"I work hard, I make my own living and I love it. I like having financial independence," she said. "I don't ever want to have to depend on anyone completely. But when I have troubles sometimes, it's nice to have someone there to help."

Salma has four-year-old daughter Valentina with François-Henri. The Mexican actress says her young child prompted her to star in the upcoming animation Puss in Boots, because she wanted to make a movie her daughter could watch.

While Salma admits motherhood has had a massive influence on her career choices, she is adamant she can still perform any role given to her.

"I'm playing the queen of a drug cartel in an Oliver Stone film," she said.

"He asked if I'd gone 'all soft' because I'm a mother. I said, 'Yes, but I can be the devil if I need to, because after all, I'm an actress.' "

Sharon Osbourne removes implants

Sharon Osbourne has removed her breast implants.
Sharon took a brief hiatus from her show The Talk in September to spend time with her husband Ozzy Osbourne.
Sharon also spent her free time altering her breasts through plastic surgery.
'[T]he only time [Ozzy and I] left our house was when I had my [breast] implants taken out,' Sharon recalled on her American television programme The Talk today.
Following a recent leakage scare, Sharon simply did not want the implants in her body anymore.
"One morning I woke up and one of my boobies was kind of much longer than the other. So I''m thinking, this isn''t right,' Sharon explained.
"[The implant] leaked into the wall of my stomach."
Sharon is happy with her implant-free body. She feels back to her normal self again.
"[Now I'm] all me," Sharon said. "I don''t feel like I have a waterbed laying on my chest anymore."
Plastic surgery has not been the only thing on Sharon's mind in recent days. Her son Jack got engaged to actress Lisa Stelly in September.
Sharon is elated for him and is fond of Lisa too.
"I like [Lisa] so much because my son absolutely adores her," Sharon said.

Paul Walker Finds Hours For a new thriller

While these days he’s mostly best known for driving very quickly in the majority of the Fast and the Furious franchise entries, Paul Walker has been trying for a change of pace in his other movies. And he’s definitely switching gears for Hours, a new dramatic thriller.

Eric Heisserer, who has been making a name for himself as a horror screenwriter (with credits including the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake, Final Destination 5 and the upcoming Thing prequel), is behind the script and will direct the film. Hours follows a young father (Walker) who must struggle to keep his newborn daughter alive in a devastated, abandoned New Orleans hospital shortly after Hurricane Katrina hits.

Buried producer Peter Safran has rustled up the money to get the movie made, and Heisserer will start the cameras cranking in March next year, shooting in New Orleans itself. Read more at Empire online

New iPhone expected from Apple on Tuesday

SAN FRANCISCO: Apple Inc. is unveiling a new, more powerful version of its wildly popular smartphone more than a year after it launched the iPhone 4.

Last week, Apple Inc. e-mailed invitations to a media event at its headquarters in Cupertino on Tuesday morning. The invite says "let's talk iPhone," implying the secretive company intends to show off the latest version of the device.

The first iPhone came out in 2007, and the phone's signature slick looks, high-resolution screen and intuitive software has gained millions of fans over the years. There were 39 million iPhones sold just between January and the end of June.

Beyond the iPhone itself, the Tuesday event is anticipated as Apple's first major product unveiling in years that won't be led by Steve Jobs, who resigned from the CEO post in August after being out on indefinite medical leave since January.

The Apple co-founder is now its executive chairman. And though Jobs did emerge from medical leave twice this year to present Apple's innovations most recently in June to show off its new mobile software and iCloud content storage service his successor, Tim Cook, is expected to take the lead this time.(AP)

Apple 'genius' Steve Jobs dies from cancer

SAN FRANCISCO: Apple's visionary co-founder Steve Jobs died from cancer Wednesday at 56, a premature end for a man who revolutionized modern culture with ubiquitous inventions like the iPod and the iPad.

"We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today," the California-based gadgetmaker said in a statement from its board of directors.

"Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve."

Tim Cook -- who had been handling Apple's day-to-day operations since Jobs went on medical leave in January, and was made CEO in August -- led the praise for the Silicon Valley legend.

"Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor," he said.

"Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple."

Apple turned its home page into a tribute to Jobs, posting a large black-and-white photo of the bearded high-tech maestro in his trademark black turtleneck and small round glasses. The only caption: "Steve Jobs, 1955-2011."

When a user clicks on the photo, they are taken to Cook's message in remembrance of Jobs, who died after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Apple fans were invited to share their thoughts, memories and condolences by sending messages to rememberingsteve@apple.com. The rest of the website and store remained accessible.

Jobs' family also issued a statement, saying he had died surrounded by his relatives.

"In his public life, Steve was known as a visionary; in his private life, he cherished his family," it said.

"We are thankful to the many people who have shared their wishes and prayers during the last year of Steve's illness; a website will be provided for those who wish to offer tributes and memories."

Born on February 24, 1955 in San Francisco to a single mother and adopted by a couple in nearby Mountain View at barely a week old, Jobs grew up among the orchards that would one day become the technology hub known as Silicon Valley.

He was just 21 and Steve Wozniak 26 when they founded Apple Computer in the garage of Jobs's family home in 1976.

Under Jobs, the company introduced its first Apple computers and then the Macintosh, which became wildly popular in the 1980s.

Jobs was elevated to idol status by ranks of Macintosh computer devotees, many of whom saw themselves as a sort of rebel alliance opposing the powerful empire Microsoft built with its ubiquitous Windows operating systems.

Jobs left Apple in 1985 after an internal power struggle and started NeXT Computer company specializing in sophisticated workstations for businesses.

He co-founded Academy-Award-winning Pixar in 1986 from a former Lucasfilm computer graphics unit that he bought from movie industry titan George Lucas.

Apple's luster faded after Jobs left the company, but they reconciled in 1996 with Apple buying NeXT for $429 million and Jobs ascending once again to the Apple throne.

Apple went from strength to strength as Jobs revamped the Macintosh line, revolutionizing modern culture and launching a "post-PC era" in which personal computers give way to smart mobile gadgets -- the iPod, iPhone and the iPad.

His passing will raise doubts over whether the Cupertino, California-based company can continue its dominance in the hugely competitive technology sector.

Jobs is survived by his wife Laurene, with whom he had three children. He also had a daughter with a woman he dated prior to marrying. (AFP)

Rosamund Pike craved normality after heartbreak

Rosamund Pike felt her life would never be “conventional” after she was publicly dumped by her fiancĂ©.

The actress met director Joe Wright on the set of 2005’s Pride & Prejudice, which she appeared in and he helmed. They were together for four years, with him calling time on their relationship a month before they were due to marry.

Rosamund won’t talk about the experience, except to say she has not seen Joe since. She previously admitted she had no idea why Joe ended things, and now says it changed her profoundly.

“When you’re about to get married and then you’re not, it’s all a big shock. You think, well, OK, so I’m never going to lead a totally conventional life now,” she told the November edition of UK magazine InStyle.

“Well, it sort of cleans the slate and now I can be exactly who I am. Everyone gives you a certain leeway too, because they can see that you’ve had something pretty painful going on. And in that, I find a tremendous freedom. I now know I can be married or not married, live with someone or apart, or even in a separate country. Even my grandmother is no longer expecting me to go down a conventional route, which is nice.”

Having had her private life gossiped about in the past, Rosamund is now very private. She is seeing someone new, but refuses to discuss the romance. Read more at Film-News uk

Men find brown-haired, blue-eyed woman most attractive

The popular saying, "gentlemen prefer blondes", no longer holds weight, as a new study has found that they, in fact, overwhelmingly opt for brunettes.

Social network site Badoo polled 2,000 men to find out the features they find most attractive in the opposite sex.

Far from men finding blondes the most sexually attractive, the study found that more than 60 percent said they preferred raven-haired beauties to their blonde counterparts.

A third of all those polled said they find brown hair the most attractive, while 28.6 percent said they liked black - making up a total of 59.7 percent over all preferring dark-haired girls.

Those gentlemen who indeed do prefer blondes made up just 29.5 percent of the vote, while redheads came in as the least popular, with just 8.8 percent of men voting for them.

The study also found that men do not prefer women with a model-like physique.

Actually, the largest majority looked for an "average" dress size of 12 to 14 in their perfect woman, with only 10 percent looking for a size 6 to 8.

When it comes to eye colour though, a massive 40.2 percent of men prefer blue eyes to any other colour.

"I was amazed that blonde hair and size 8 did not top the list," the Daily Mail quoted Lloyd Price, from Badoo, as saying.

"Magazines are full of skinny blonde models, so it is nice to see that in reality guys prefer the girl next door look," he added.

Kate Winslet ‘considers marriage’

Kate Winslet is said to be talking marriage with her new boyfriend.

The Hollywood actress and her new partner Ned Rocknroll apparently recently spent time together at the house of Ned’s aunt in Chichester, Sussex.

The time away has cemented their relationship, as the pair began discussing making a permanent commitment to one another.

"They have really fallen for each other,” a source told British newspaper The Sun. “They are even mentioning marriage."

Ned, 33, is the nephew of businessman Sir Richard Branson. The couple got to know one another while holidaying on Richard’s Necker Island recently, at the time when the billionaire’s home caught fire.

Kate, 35, was visiting the island with her children and then-boyfriend, model Louis Dowler, but she called time on their romance recently.

The Oscar-winning actress has been married twice before; her first marriage to Jim Threapleton ended in 2001. She announced her split from second husband, American Beauty director Sam Mendes, last year.

Kate had a daughter with Jim, ten-year-old Mia Honey, and seven-year-old son Joe with Sam.

Ned married society heiress Eliza Cowdray, 23, two years ago, but they split earlier this year. (Film News uk)

Nicole Richie flies to UK for Disney party

Nicole Richie flew her family from Los Angeles to London so they could go to a “once in a lifetime” Disney event.

The Hollywood star, her husband Joel Madden and their children Harlow, three, and two-year-old Sparrow attended the occasion at Kensington Palace yesterday. Disney hosted an event to mark the coronation of their latest star Rapunzel. She is the main character in their animated movie Tangled, and is the tenth princess to receive the honour.

Harlow was particularly keen to be present at the party, which saw Rapunzel following in the footsteps of other princesses such as Snow White, Jasmine, Cinderella and Pocahontas by being honoured.

“It was a journey, but it's a once in a lifetime opportunity,” Nicole explained to Us Weekly. “When I told my daughter that she was going to meet Rapunzel she was very excited. We're just excited to be out here as a family!”

Nicole plans to make the most of her trip to the UK. She loves shopping while in the country, and the current unseasonably warm weather there makes the pastime a necessity for her.

“I like to shop. And I actually packed all warm clothes. I packed four suitcases full of coats thinking that it was going to be freezing - and to my surprise, it's beautiful weather, so I'm a little limited on my clothes this trip. So I might have to go shopping,” she laughed. (Film-News uk)
