Woman calls police over spider in kitchen

A woman rang police asking officers to deal with a spider in her kitchen.

The unidentified person was frightened after spotting the arachnid in her home in Coventry, reports The Mirror.

However, she was told that the matter was deemed not urgent enough and was warned not to abuse the emergency service line.

A police spokesperson said: "People who call 999 for inappropriate reasons are potentially putting lives at risk by taking call handlers' time away from genuine emergency calls.

"Each call takes several minutes to deal with as staff have to clarify what is going on. If someone is trying to get through to report a genuine emergency, a minute is a very long time to wait."
