Captain America' Avengers look chosen by Joss Whedon, says star

Captain America star Chris Evans has revealed that director Joss Whedon decided on his look for The Avengers.

The actor will be reprising his role for the Marvel superhero movie, directed by the Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator.

Evans told The Playlist: "The first [costume] was a 1940s look, very utilitarian, something that would serve a purpose on the battlefield.

"But in The Avengers, Joss just had a certain vision in his mind about what he wanted Cap to look like."

Evans continued: "That's what he wanted to see. It's so nice working on these movies and the director's a fan. He's the dude at Comic-Con that we're terrified of p*ssing off. If Joss is happy, I'm happy."

He added that he is likely to appear in one of the upcoming films in the Marvel superhero franchise as it "is part of the deal".

Evans also confirmed that a sequel to Captain America could be released in 2014.

In July, Evans admitted that he had found the costume in the first Captain America film uncomfortable, describing his Avengers outfit as more modern and slick.

He also recently said that he had been concerned about starring in a film with such a large ensemble cast.

The Avengers will be released in UK cinemas on August 4 2012.
